French telecommunications group Iliad plans to invest millions of euros to build France's AI industry. Iliad said that it has already invested 100 million Euros in building an excellence lab for research on AI in Paris. According to the September 26 announcement, a team of renowned researchers has already been established. Along with this, Iliad Chairman Xavier Niel will lead this team. Niel further said that there is a need to build an entire ecosystem in France and the research lab will play an important role in this.
The main objective of this lab will be to create General AI to make AI accessible to everyone and make AI research available to everyone. In addition to the research lab, Iliad has acquired the most powerful Cloud-Native AI Supercomputer ever deployed in Europe. The Nvidia DGX SuperPOD, equipped with the Nvidia DGX H100 system, is installed in the company's Datacenter 5 near Paris. The company says the DGX SuperPOD produces the power needed to rapidly develop Large Language Models (LLM).
Apart from Iliad, Iliad's subsidiary Scaleway is now working on plans to give its customers access to cloud native AI tools. Because the development of AI is continuously increasing and many countries are also making new announcements regarding AI. On the other hand, some companies are making different announcements by making changes in the tools related to AI technology on their platforms. Moving ahead with this goal, Peris is working on a plan to build an AI research lab. Scaleway CEO Damien Lucas has said about this lab that with its help, European companies will be able to significantly advance new innovations in AI to be competitive at the international level. According to the information received, work on creating this lab is being done soon after an announcement made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on September 13 to help AI startups with access to supercomputers in Europe.
